CNG Prices

CNG is traded at futures rates at the New York Mercantile Stock Exchange.  The prices for the natural gas futures had been performing at an average rate of $3.7 to $3.8 per MMBtu during the month of November 2011.

The prices for compressed natural gas depend on the consumption rates in addition to the speculations of investors.  When the temperature in the western part of the country is cooler, the demand for CNG used for heating purposes increases.  As a result, the prices also increase.  Something similar was noted in the prices of CNG during November 2011.  The price of CNG in California increased from $3.71 to $3.92 per MMBtu over the period of just one week in November 2011.

According to figures provided by the NGI, in February of 2013, the average price of CNG was $3.34 per MMBtu.  On average, the price of CNG in the major centers of commercial activity in the United States varied from $3.81 to $3.82 per MMBtu between 3 November 2011 and 9 November 2011.

The supply levels and expected inventory levels also impact on the prices of CNG to a great extent. Prices of CNG generally go down when an increase in the storage and inventory levels is expected.
