Types of CNG Stations

You have 3 choices, time-fill, fast-fill stations, or a combination of the two.  The main differences between the two types of stations are storage capacity and compressor size.  These determine the amount that CNG is dispensed and the time it takes for it to be delivered.

Each station will have different needs, so it is important to answer a few questions before you decide on a fast-fill or time-fill station:

1.  What types of vehicles will be refueled?  Light duty, route delivery, trash haulers, etc.

2.  How many vehicles will be refueling at this site?

3.  How much gas does each vehicle require?

How CNG can Save You Money

Are gasoline and diesel costs destroying your profit margins?

CNG Refueling Systems can help you decide if converting your fleet will make sense.

CNG is more fuel efficient than gasoline or diesel – natural gas is tapped on US soil and is about 50 percent cheaper per gallon.
Compressed Natural Gas is Safe – tanks are sealed with a safety valve that maintains a safe pressure.
Compressed Natural Gas is Cleaner – natural gas emits a fraction of greenhouse gasses compared to fossil fuel and is colorless and odorless.
Tax Incentives for Converting your Fleet – the Federal Government offers corporations generous grants and subsidies when converting.

Is CNG Right For Me?

Corporations are digging for creative ways to lower costs, but they are a slave to the price of imported oil. CNG can help. Converting your fleet of trucks or cars from gasoline to compressed natural gas will mean:

About 50 percent lower fuel costs compared to gasoline.
Lower engine maintenance costs.
Federal tax credits for vehicle conversion and fuel consumption.

Understanding CNG

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is composed primarily of methane, a hydrocarbon gas. Natural gas exists naturally under the earth’s surface and is drilled in the same manner as crude oil is drilled from the earth. It is estimated that the natural gas reserves of the earth are around 135,000 billion cubic meters. Since the 1990s the number of gas reserves being discovered has been growing at a rate of 5% per year. Because of the increasingly common trend of moving away from polluting and expensive crude oil and petroleum based fuels, the use of compressed natural gas as a fuel is growing.

It has been several decades since CNG has been used in vehicles as an alternative to gasoline or petrol.

CNG: The Alternative

Compressed natural gas, also known as CNG, is the most rapidly developing alternative to gasoline or other oil-based fuels. The main reason for the growing popularity of CNG as an automotive fuel is its great affordability and its clean burning properties. Both these properties have made CNG one of the most rapidly growing sectors in the energy economy. In fact, the CNG industry has become one of the leading industries and economic leaders of several countries. As a fuel, it has several advantages over gasoline and petroleum which are more aligned to the environmental needs of the twenty-first century.

CNG is becoming one of the most popular fuels because it is present in abundant supplies, even in the United States where oil deposits are uneconomical to extract at present.

CNG Grants & Tax Credits

Growth of the CNG industry has been most remarkable in developing countries like Brazil and Pakistan. Why?  Growing population and the economic progress made in the first decade of the twenty-first century.  And for many people in these countries, a CNG car will be their first car, making the market opportunities here are far greater than in markets of the developed countries.

The economy has become extremely dependent on petroleum-based fuel and any changeover to an alternative fuel will necessitate a lot of reconfiguration of the economy.  With Brazil and Pakistan, CNG found a place for itself as economic growth in these countries was picking up pace.

CNG Prices

CNG is traded at futures rates at the New York Mercantile Stock Exchange.  The prices for the natural gas futures had been performing at an average rate of $3.7 to $3.8 per MMBtu during the month of November 2011.

The prices for compressed natural gas depend on the consumption rates in addition to the speculations of investors.  When the temperature in the western part of the country is cooler, the demand for CNG used for heating purposes increases.  As a result, the prices also increase.  Something similar was noted in the prices of CNG during November 2011.  The price of CNG in California increased from $3.71 to $3.92 per MMBtu over the period of just one week in November 2011.

Green and Business Prudence

The emergence of compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative to other popular liquid fuels has spearheaded the creation of an entire industry and has prevented an environmental issue from spiraling out of control.  By the end of the previous century environmentalists were worried about the rising temperatures of the earth and the impending global climate change. Unfortunately, many did not take their concerns seriously despite the fact that stacks of reports prepared by environmental agencies and NGOs showed that the emissions from factories and automobiles were bringing about dangerous changes to the ecological systems.

Engines and Conversion Kits

It is estimated that millions of cars have already been converted to CNG in only the past decade as the costs of petroleum and gasoline have been increasing rapidly.  Installing a CNG kit in a car or getting a CNG conversion kit is easier now, as all major cities now have CNG conversion kit centers where you can have one installed.

A CNG kit consists of a CNG tank.  This tank contains the gas that will be used to power the engine.  The purpose is to place the kit in the safest place to avoid risk of injury to the car and to the passengers inside.  The gas cylinder has to be very secure so that gas does not leak.  While filling up the gas cylinder at the CNG station, care is taken not to place too much pressure on the cylinder.
